Learn the ABC's of co-creating Community!

We are proud to invite you to explore this site and contribute to the building of the online part of our community! ABC operates as a fiscal sponsor for community building initiatives and as an intentional distributed community devoted to developing the process arts for social justice and conflict facilitation training. Toward this end we conduct public and private dialogues, such as the recent events with Huston Smith, as well as connecting process arts professionals with individuals and groups ready to work through conflict toward peace. Peace is impossible without conflict done well. Every minute/dollar donated to ABC deepens and strengthens the sustainable capacity of your community to respond creatively to difficulty and difference.

If you are new please check out A Welcome for information about participation in ABC. If you aren't a member yet please email brandon at abcglobal dot net with a few words about your connection to the work here.

Several pages on this wiki are not created by members of ABC, as this is not required to contribute a user page, so voices here do not always reflect consensus.

Frontpage NEWS

Several folks from all over are gathering at the ABC offices at Epworth united Methodist Church on Feb 7 and 8 to collaborate on a developing pattern language for group process. This project is independent of ABC and has been ongoing for some time.

The project's convener, Tree Bressen, wrote:

New folks are welcome, but we want them to be up to speed somewhat before arriving. The goal of this gathering is to get a bunch of patterns actually written onto the website. I mean, i expect some wonderful connecting and conversations about more than just one particular pattern too, hopefully we'll be learning more about how patterns get written effectively and so on, but basically i am aiming at a work session, rather than a meeting/conference/exploration. Here's what i posted to the list about this:

This is a call for all those who would like to meet in person in the SF Bay Area to write patterns together! The goal of this session is to do actual pattern writing, most likely directly onto the website. The expectation is that anyone coming to this session will already be somewhat familiar with the project, already know what counts as a pattern for our purposes, and be ready to sit down to work.

If you think this project sounds cool but you aren't quite at that level yet, there are a few ways to get oriented ahead of time:
1. You can read up on the website at http://grouppatternlanguage.org/.
2. You could attend a local preliminary session with Kaliya Hamlin & friends, either following the OSonOS event on Jan. 18 or following the monthly Fabulous Facilitators meeting on Jan. 25; alternatives may be organized by Kaliya, Raines, and/or others depending on interest. Contact Kaliya at <kaliya@mac.com> or 510-472-9069 to connect up with that.
3. You could have a phone conversation with me, Tree (after 11am, Jan. 7-19 or Jan. 28-Feb.1).

Brandon here, again.

To learn more, please check out http://processarts.net and http://grouppatternlanguage.org for more info. The process arts are methods for facilitating group process and shaping culture. A pattern language for group process refers to the themes and widely recognized structures which appear in all group interaction. As any social action can benefit from conscious attention to how human beings work together, refining a pattern shared language is essential to bring practitioners of the process arts into relationship with one another (through a shared language), and could contribute significantly to the development of the process arts as an emerging field of study in parallel with the liberal arts.

Please consider joining in the pattern writing and community building!
